How To Make a Pomander - Pagan Crafts
ORANGE + CLOVE POMANDER FOR YULETIDE
A Pomander is a sweet-smelling globe originating from Medieval Europe. It was originally a gold or silver globe made with little holes and filled with a ball of spices and perfumes, intended to hang around the neck or wrist. A folk witchcraft version was developed somewhere along the way, and consists of an orange studded with cloves and hung in the home. Pomanders are traditionally made at Yule, and are a fun project to immerse yourself in the scents and traditions of the season!
Materials:
Orange
Whole cloves (included in your Yule box)
String or Ribbon
A knitting needle or toothpick
Method:
Tie your string around the fruit so you have a way to hang it afterwards.
Use the knitting needle or toothpick to create holes for the clove. Make the holes in any creative pattern you like!
Push the cloves into the Orange using the pre-formed holes.
Hang the pomander as a decoration in your home, ideally in a warm, dry, place. If moisture is kept out of the space the pomander is, it will eventually dry completely and last for years!
